Gary Neville jokes he should be taken off Sky coverage of West Ham vs Arsenal

Gary Neville has jokingly said he should be taken off Sky Sports’ coverage of West Ham United‘s clash against Arsenal this weekend.

Neville is pretty much Sky’s most prominent pundit and has therefore been selected for the big game of the week.

Arsenal can move another step closer to the Premier League title with victory in Sunday’s clash at the London Stadium.

More importantly from West Ham’s perspective, they could really do with at least a point to give their survival hopes an unexpected boost.

Neville has been sharing his thoughts on West Ham’s clash with Arsenal ahead of the game in East London.

Gary Neville’s priorities to be elsewhere this weekend

West Ham’s showdown with Arsenal is truly massive at both ends of the division for reasons outlined above.

Sky’s decision, well in advance, to select it in the primetime 4:30pm slot on Sunday has paid off handsomely.

Neville will be part of the commentary team, but the former Manchester United defender’s thoughts will clearly be elsewhere.

Speaking on the latest edition of The Overlap, when discussing the match, Neville jokingly said: “Sky should take me off it really because Salford are playing Grimsby in the playoffs. I’ve not mentioned it to them.”

Neville is a co-owner of Salford, who are potentially now just two wins away from earning promotion to League One.

The Salford versus Grimsby semi-final first leg kicks off at 3pm on Sunday, so Neville can at least watch the entire first half.

West Ham relegation could become a reality over next four days

At one point a statement like that may have sounded hyperbolic, but not so much right now.

Make no mistake about it, West Ham are in serious relegation trouble right now, sitting as they do inside the bottom three with three games to go.

The big worry is that the Irons have an extremely tough clash with Arsenal this weekend, a little over 24 hours before Tottenham face a Leeds United side who could be safe by then.

If the one-point gap grows to four points with two games to go, the psychological blow on West Ham will be massive.

Nuno Espirito Santo will not want to rely on favours, and therefore a shock result against Arsenal will be targeted.

Like Neville, let us just hope Arsenal’s heads are elsewhere on the back of their midweek European exertions.
