West Ham Women make Verena Hanshaw announcement
West Ham United have announced the signing of defender Verena Hanshaw from AS Roma.
The Irons confirmed the signing via their website (22 January) as the Austrian international joins new signings Kristie Mewis, Shelina Zadorsky and Katrina Gorry in East London.
Rehanne Skinner has been working hard throughout the winter transfer window to bolster his squad, as goalkeeper Katelin Talbert also returned from her loan spell at Tottenham to fight for a first team berth.
West Ham United sign Verena Hanshaw
The Hammers suffered a cruel return to action in the Women’s Super League after the winter break, losing 5-0 to league leaders Chelsea at the Chigwell Construction Stadium.
Skinner has only managed two league wins thus far this term, with his side sitting only three points clear of bottom-of-the-table Crystal Palace.
Although the boss has shown his support for his underperforming players this year, West Ham are clearly heading towards a relegation battle unless significant investment is made.
Hanshaw is a welcome addition to the ranks in East London and arrives with extensive European top-flight and Champions League experience.

The 29-year-old recently helped Roma claim the Supercoppa Italiana in a 3-1 win against Fiorentina and is a seasoned international with 116 caps with Austria.
Despite the worrying WSL form, the Irons are still involved in both domestic cup competitions, and Hanshaw will undoubtedly play a vital role in helping the side overcome Tottenham and Liverpool in the upcoming fixtures.
