West Ham Women make Stephen Healy announcement as Rehanne Skinner adds to coaching staff
West Ham United Women have announced that Stephen Healy has joined Rehanne Skinner’s coaching staff.
The Hammers confirmed in an official statement on Monday (7 October) that the sports science graduate would join the coaching ranks in East London having spent the last decade working with Leicester City.
Healy was previously the Foxes’ International Academy Head Coach and Academy Youth Development Phase Coach and he admits he was excited by the opportunity to alongside Skinner at West Ham.
As quoted by the Irons’ website on Monday (7 October) he said: “I’m delighted to be joining West Ham United.
“I was excited to be given the opportunity to present to Rehanne and the team recently and felt energised and enthused by the long-term vision of the Club.
“I have come up against Rehanne many times over the years and have the utmost respect for the work that she achieved at Leicester City and the foundations that were laid during her tenure.
“I’m now looking forward to being part of this project and I hope I can use my experience to develop the current crop of players at West Ham United.”
What is happening at West Ham United?
West Ham may not have had the best start to the WSL season, but their early performances have suggested that there is enough quality in this squad to avoid the drop to the Championship this term.
Healy’s track record suggests that he is excellent at helping players, both in the first-team squad and the academy, develop and progress their game and that could be exactly what Skinner and her side need at this stage of the campaign.
The former Leicester City coach is expected to help the Hammers develop their attacking play and that could well prove to be crucial this term as the Irons have only managed to score once in their opening three league games.
Their League Cup clash with Portsmouth showed that there is plenty of attacking talent in their ranks as they ran out 6-1 winners. It is not just about making sure those players are able to find the net in the WSL as well.
Hopefully, this appointment will be the exact boost Skinner’s side need ahead of their showdown with Everton on Sunday (13 October).
