West Ham Women expert Michelle Irons was shocked when Olli Harder’s exit was announced but pleased to learn of his replacement.
Following the defeat to Arsenal on the last day of the season it was confirmed the Paul Konchesky would be taking over the reins with the Hammers.
Harder, who took charge of 47 matches after arriving in December 2020 and Irons was impressed with the team under his guidance.
Speaking exclusively to West Ham Zone she said: “It was announced soon after fulltime in the final game that our manager Olli Harder was to depart West Ham to explore “other opportunities” with his contract ending early.
“This announcement came as a surprise as his tenure, albeit short, was a huge success, and him cutting his contract short was a real shock as he was expected to lead the team into next season.
“Olli had made a positive impact and we finished sixth with a record amount of points on the board in a campaign that including the shock win away at Man City.
“He changed our approach to games and we played with real attacking finesse.
“Along with the announcement of his departure came the appointment of his assistant Paul Konchesky on a two-year deal to replace him.
“I for one was delighted when Konch took the role as assistant as every West Ham knows what Paul brings from his time as a player, with huge experience in the men’s game.
“Its clear that Paul has a huge connection with this team. He speaks highly of the players and how much he enjoys his role.
“As a West Ham legend I’ll back him all the way and hope he can continue the fine work done by Olli.”

In a club statement Harder said upon his exit: ““I am proud and honoured to have had the opportunity to work for West Ham United and share this experience with our amazing staff, players, and, of course, incredible fans.
“I believe I’m leaving the Club in a really good place. I am sure that if it continues to build on this platform of success, the future is bright.”
Ex-men’s team full-back Konchesky said: ““This is a very proud moment for me. I’m really honoured to have been appointed.
“I’m relishing both the challenge and the opportunity that comes with this role. West Ham is really close to my heart – it was a dream to play for the Club and now to be in this position is something I am really excited about. I’m looking forward to getting started.”
In other West Ham news, a Premier League star appears to have issued a very modern “come-and-get-me” plea to show he wants to join the men’s team.
