West Ham United Women announcement as new FA Cup date v Liverpool confirmed

Liverpool Women have announced the new date for the Women’s FA Cup clash against West Ham United Women.

The Irons announced via their website on Saturday (11 January) that the fourth-round clash was postponed after the Chigwell Construction Stadium failed a pitch inspection, with the playing surface frozen.

Liverpool confirmed hours later on Saturday (11 January) that the tie has been confirmed for Wednesday, 29 January, with a 7:45pm kick off time.

West Ham United will fancy their chances against Liverpool

Rehanne Skinner is fighting a relegation battle in the Women’s Super League – her side are only one point behind Liverpool.

The Hammers have yet to encounter Matt Beard’s side in the league this season, but they will be encouraged by the 1-0 win in the League Cup quarter-final last term.

This month will be pivotal for Skinner as she prepares for a trip to North London in the quarter-final of this year’s rendition of the League Cup on 22 January after hosting league leaders Chelsea in East London.

West Ham are slowly working towards building a long-term core group of players, with goalkeeper Katelin Talbert returning to Chigwell after her loan deal with Tottenham.

Skinner has been quick to offer her public support for his underperforming players this year, but every match from now until the end of the season will be a cup final as the Irons aim to avoid relegation from the top flight.

A deep run in either the FA Cup or League Cup will go a long way toward helping ease the nerves in East London, and Skinner has the perfect opponent to kick-start some much-needed momentum in Liverpool.
