‘Our best player’ – These West Ham fans gush over one player v Liverpool

There aren’t many more intimidating opponents to make your debut against than Liverpool, but that’s what West Ham United starlet Jeremy Ngakia did on Wednesday.

The 19-year-old was thrown into the senior side for the first time against the league leaders, starting at right back for David Moyes’ team.

He put in a remarkably solid performance in the Hammers’ 2-0 defeat to Jurgen Klopp’s side, holding his own against the best team in world football.

Going forward, there is clear room for improvement, but he certainly didn’t look overawed by the occasion.

Pablo Zabaleta needed a rest – he’s 35 years of age now after all – while first choice right back Ryan Fredericks is obviously still out injured.

You would’ve expected Ben Johnson to be the youngster to step up to the plate on Wednesday, but it was Ngakia. Credit to him that he didn’t look out of place at all.

The Irons supporters clearly appreciated his efforts, with one of them referring to him as ‘our best player’.
