‘Joke of a player’ – These West Ham fans slam one player v Gillingham

West Ham United left back Arthur Masuaku’s battle with the bug-bear that is inconsistency very much continued on Sunday evening.

The DR Congo international is capable of brilliance, we all know that, but he also puts in lacklustre showings all too often.

Unfortunately for the Hammers, the latter was in evidence during their 2-0 FA Cup win away at Gillingham.

New manager David Moyes picked a very strong team, and so the east London outfit should have been able to ease past their League One opponents a bit more than they did.

That wasn’t the case, though. Masuaku was one of those given a chance, albeit in a new formation where he served as a left wing back.

You’d think that would be a good role for a full back who has always been more of a winger than a natural defender.

But he struggled to make his mark in the game and frequently gave the ball away. That led to one supporter branding him a ‘joke of a player’.
