West Ham may have already found new Mark Noble in academy gem
West Ham United have had a bit of a problem trying to sort out their midfield ranks this season.
The likes of Carlos Soler and Guido Rodriguez were brought in during the summer transfer window to try and bolster their ranks but things haven’t gone quite to plan.
At the moment, the future of Rodriguez is up in the air as he’s seeking a London Stadium exit while others such as Edson Alvarez just aren’t quite cutting it.
However, Freddie Potts, who is currently on loan to Championship side Portsmouth, has put in a fair few industrious performances for the relegation candidates since his Fratton Park switch.
While the potential of him being recalled by the Hammers is something that has been rumoured, nothing has yet been set in stone but it’s clear to see why Julen Lopetegui would want him back sharp-ish.
Why would Freddie Potts be an ideal solution for West Ham United?
The midfielder is 21 years old and has been one of, if not the best players among Pompey’s ranks this term.
John Mousinho’s men may, at the moment, be sat just one point clear of the second-tier relegation zone but it feels like they’ve put in some decent performances across the season.
As aforementioned, Potts has particularly impressed with the defensive midfielder notching 18 appearances while contributing to three goals in that time.
With the way he plays his football, it sometimes feels like there’s an essence of Mark Noble in his prime.

The 21-year-old is a workhorse, has a keen eye for a pass and can also evidently find the back of the net if and when needed.
If Lopetegui wants to solve his midfield woes, recalling Potts from his Fratton Park stint could be the way for him to do that and could end up leading to the discovery of the next big thing from the London Stadium.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers have made contact with a Premier League club regarding the transfer of a striker in January.
