West Ham academy graduate Freddie Potts needs redemption after recent Wycombe display

West Ham academy ace Freddie Potts has taken the challenge of League One football in his stride, developing through the ups and downs of senior football.

The 20-year-old joined Wycombe Wanderers on loan last summer, with the young star in desperate need of valuable minutes and experience at a decent level.

While The Chairboys have been struggling this season, currently sitting four points above the relegation zone in League One, Potts has used the tough season to his advantage, proving he can be a potential West Ham player in the future.

However, he will be on the search for redemption after his most recent performance in a Wycombe shirt, as he recorded a 38 per cent pass accuracy in a 3-1 victory over Cheltenham Town. [FotMob]

It was a rough day at the office for the West Ham loanee, who managed just an eight per cent accuracy within his 12 long passes, completed 0 per cent of his tackles while being dribbled past twice, and lost 50 per cent of his duels in midfield.

Fans from both clubs will be hoping that this is just a freak occurrence for the 20-year-old, who has otherwise had a stellar season in League One.

Manager Matt Bloomfield clearly has a huge amount of trust in Potts, having started the youngster in 20 of Wycombe’s 29 league games so far this season. Looking at his stats, it is easy to see why.

In 1804 league minutes, Potts has maintained a 75 per cent passing accuracy, completed 61 per cent of his dribbles, and won 68 per cent of his tackles. He has also made 32 clearances and 35 interceptions. [FotMob]

Potts possesses the ability to deputise as a box-to-box midfielder, rather than just a defensive player, proven by his 12 chances created, in addition to two goals and an assist.

West Ham fans may want to keep a closer eye on their current loanee. With Conor Coventry having just left on a permanent deal, the Hammers will not want a repeat of having to let a young midfield prospect leave.

In other West Ham news, a profit and sustainability situation emerged in one Premier League club’s pursuit of a Hammers player.
