Jacob Knightbridge could be handed West Ham United debut soon after his recent comments

West Ham United appear to be in safe hands between the sticks, with Alphonse Areola and Lukasz Fabianski protecting them for the last few seasons.

Fans will be unable to remember the last time one of these two was not involved in a starting line-up, with Areola deputising in the Premier League and Fabianksi being deployed as a cup ‘keeper.

However, the latter is nearing the end of his footballing career, and the London side will need to fill the vacant spot in the squad when that moment finally happens.

West Ham United future in safe hands with Jacob Knightbridge

Step forward, Jacob Knightbridge. The 20-year-old has been on the fringes of David Moyes’ squad this season, having been named in the matchday squad on four occasions, including the special victory over Tottenham in December.

A first-team debut does not seem too far away for the youngster, especially after his recent comments revealed a very mature outlook on his current situation with the Hammers.

Speaking via the club’s official website on Tuesday (20 February), he said: “Having two hugely experienced goalkeepers, keepers at the top of their games, we are really lucky to have that.

“It is about looking at how they train – their technique – how they carry themselves in the dressing room too. You can learn a lot from that.

“I’d love to play for West Ham one day – that’s the main goal of mine. I grew up in Brentwood, Essex, and West Ham is massive around there.”

Helping Fabianski and Areola warm up before Premier League clashes would suggest that Moyes and his staff have a lot of trust in the youngster, and it could just be a matter of time until the lifelong West Ham fan achieves his dream of playing for the first team.

Moyes just needs the perfect opportunity to deploy the shot-stopper, which could come closer to the end of the campaign.
