Freddie Potts ‘to get West Ham United chance’ after Portsmouth news
Graham Potter has plenty of work to do with West Ham United over the remainder of the campaign to prove he can take the club forward after a tough season so far.
Although the boss is looking at making additions to his squad during the winter transfer window, financial resources are limited due to a big spend under Julen Lopetegui in the summer, which leaves the new manager needing to think creatively.
The Irons need to add some strength to their midfield ahead of the second half of the season as this is an area where they have been lacking this term, and Carney Chukwuemeka and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall are said to be on the list to come into the club [Matt Law, 5 January].
However, if the right targets cannot be added to the squad, Freddie Potts could be recalled from his loan spell at Portsmouth to give the Hammers more options [ex-WHUEmployee, 21 January].
Freddie Potts could flourish under Graham Potter at West Ham
After succeeding on loan with Wycombe Wanderers last season, the midfielder has been with Portsmouth throughout the campaign so far competing in the Championship.
The South Coast club are struggling at the bottom end of the table in the second tier, but the 21-year-old has been a regular part of the side as he looks to play his part in keeping Pompey in the second tier.
With this in mind, the boss should only recall the player if he is prepared to give him minutes on the pitch in order to aid his development.

The 49-year-old has made a name for himself off his ability to take young players and develop their talent in order to make them a regular in the first team, and Potts has already shown he has the ability to go further.
The youngster has been involved in Europa League and Europa Conference League action with the Irons and will now be ready to take that step into the first team and prove himself at the senior level.
With Potter limited for places he can look for reinforcements, surely it must be time for him to work his magic with the academy graduates at The London Stadium too.
In other West Ham news, sources claim the Hammers can now secure the services of a £40m player in January.
