Youssouf Fofana makes West Ham United transfer decision amid AC Milan update

Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana rejected a move to West Ham United “days ago”, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The transfer specialist reported via X on Sunday (28 July) that the French international has agreed personal terms with AC Milan and still wants to make the move to join the European giants this summer.

Fofana wants to play in the Champions League and after he rejected a move to the London Stadium, the Hammers have quickly turned their attention to new transfer targets for the remainder of the transfer window.

Reports from within France suggested Julen Lopetegui’s side had matched Monaco’s asking price for the midfielder, while Milan are yet to submit an offer that has been accepted by the Ligue 1 side [L’Equipe, 28 July].

Will West Ham United sign Youssouf Fofana in the summer transfer window?

This has happened more than once already for West Ham this summer, but it looks like they won’t be getting their hands on another one of their transfer targets ahead of the new Premier League season.

Fofana would have been an excellent addition to the Hammers midfield. While few fans would suggest additions in the middle of the park should be the main priority this summer, the French international is a cut above.

However, with no European football at the London Stadium for the first season in a number of years, the Irons are going to find it much harder to get their hands on exciting talents than they have done in the past.

Luckily, Tim Steidten and Lopetegui have been in the game for long enough to know that you don’t put all your eggs in one basket during the transfer window. They will have plenty of alternative targets already lined up.

Hopefully, they can win the race for one of those players after the disappointing last few weeks of the window.
