Wolves are set to beat West Ham to the signing of Braga winger Rodrigo Gomes this summer, according to HITC.

The website reported [10 June] that Brighton, Brentford and Bournemouth joined the Hammers in attempting to secure the player's signature, but Wolves have won the race.

It is understood that Gary O'Neil's side have met Braga's £12.7million asking price, with a medical set to take place later this week ahead of a proposed move to Molineux.

West Ham United set to miss out on another summer transfer

The Irons have experienced mixed success in their pursuits despite the transfer window yet to open.

Tim Steidten has spent a very long time scouting in South America, with Flamengo's Fabricio Bruno and Palmeiras' Luis Guilherme targeted as possible transfers this summer.

The former has caused a complete saga at the London Stadium. Fabrizio Romano used his famous "here we go" phrase with Bruno's move to London before the transfer fell through in spectacular fashion.

There was a similar trend with Guilherme, too, though that transfer looks to be going through for the Hammers, with the 18-year-old reportedly landing at London Heathrow Airport earlier on Monday 10 June.

Gomes, however, has been impressing in Portugal, spending the season on loan with Estoril in the top flight, notching nine goals and eight assists in all competitions.

The Portuguese league has created many special talents over the years, so West Ham will be disappointed to miss out on a potential gem this summer.

West Ham United Julen Lopetegui
Julen Lopetegui is set to address West Ham's depleted defensive depth this summer.

At just 20 years of age, Gomes looks to be a promising talent who could have thrived under Julen Lopetegui at the London Stadium. A move to Wolves looks imminent, though.

Capable of playing on either flank, he would have added dynamism and threat to the current trio of Jarrod Bowen, Mohammed Kudus and Lucas Paqueta, though all three stars have been linked with exits.
