Winner emerges in West Ham United and Nottingham Forest race for Carlos Miguel

Nottingham Forest have beaten West Ham in the race to secure the services of Corinthians keeper Carlos Miguel, according to Bruno Andrade.

The CNN Portugal journalist reported on 7 June that despite the Hammers’ last gasp attempt to sign the Brazilian, he will be moving to the City Ground.

It’s understood that the 25-year-old will sign a five-year deal at Forest and they will be paying £3.4million to secure his services.

Via Twitter, Andrade wrote: “Carlos Miguel will sign for 5 years with Nottingham Forest, which will pay a fee of 4 million euros (almost R$23 million) for Corinthians. There is no turning back: Carlos Miguel will leave Corinthians for England. Destination is also decided: Nottingham Forest (5 year contract). West Ham fell behind.”

West Ham unlikely to lose any sleep over Carlos Miguel transfer failure

The Hammers losing out on Miguel to Nottingham Forest is not likely to cause significant concern for them.

The club already have two quality goalkeepers in Alphonse Areola and Lukasz Fabianski, both of whom have proven their worth in the Premier League.

Areola, a French international, has shown great potential and is seen as the future of West Ham’s goalkeeping, while Fabianski, despite being in the latter stages of his career, has been a reliable option for the club.

Given the existing quality and depth in the goalkeeping department, missing out on Miguel, who is relatively unproven at the top level, is not a major setback for the club.

They can now focus on other areas of the squad that might need strengthening, without worrying about the goalkeeping position.

Should Fabianski end up leaving, then the goalkeeping situation may be revisited, but as things stand,
