Why West Ham want Simon Adingra transfer as talks held over transfer
West Ham are preparing for life in the Championship and Simon Adingra could aid them.
The Hammers are in the market for notable squad improvements as they seek an immediate bounce back into the top flight.
Futures of Jarrod Bowen and Crysencio Summerville are still up in the air, but new wingers at London Stadium appear to be on their transfer shortlist.
Sunderland's Adingra has now emerged as a potential option for Nuno Espirito Santo's squad.
After joining the Black Cats last summer, the Ivorian quickly fell out of Regis Le Bris' plans and made a winter loan move to AS Monaco.
The Ligue 1 side wants him back for next season, but the Hammers could swoop in ahead of them.
Where are West Ham positioned in Simon Adingra race?
Adingra is only 24 years old, and it feels like he has been knocking around for more than just the three years he spent in England.
He has spent most of his time in the Premier League but a stint in the second tier could now be on the cards.
According to journalist Sebastien Denis, who writes for Foot Mercato, West Ham are "keen" on a transfer and "discussions have already taken place" between the Hammers and Adingra.
However, the Irons do also face competition to get a deal done. As stated, AS Monaco want the winger back on loan, while Premier League sides Ipswich and Hull want a permanent deal.
Other European clubs such as RB Leipzig and AS Roma are also positioning themselves for a permanent transfer as well.
Roma were previously in the market for Summerville, but the steep asking price of the Irons ruled the Italians out, and they have now switched focus.
But, with West Ham already holding talks over a move, you would suspect they are positioned quite well if a move does come to the fore.
What makes Simon Adingra stand out amid West Ham interest
Adingra would certainly be an interesting move for West Ham as he does offer proven experience in England.
The Ivorian most notably made himself known to the footballing world during the 2023 edition of the African Cup of Nations.
Adingra was a key part of the Ivory Coast squad that lifted the trophy, where he was named the best young player at the competition.
The winger is known for his speed, which is a trait that Summerville provides plenty of for the Irons.
The 24-year-old could prove to be a direct replacement, and his exploits on the international stage do make him a standout option.
