Alpha Toure is still on West Ham United's radar as the start of the Championship season fast approaches.

The Hammers have recently been credited with interest in the midfielder, who has impressed for Metz in Ligue 1.

Nuno Espirito Santo has already been handed a boost in midfield after it was confirmed that Tomas Soucek would be staying at the London Stadium.

It's expected that the Irons may have to add to their options in the middle of the park, though, especially after the exit of Mateus Fernandes.

Uncertainty remains around Mohamadou Kante and Soungoutou Magassa, with the pair linked to a move back to France.

However, it could be West Ham who do the shopping in France this summer, as they've been handed a boost for the transfer of Toure.

Alpha Toure rejects West Ham's competition

One roadblock that appeared early in West Ham's pursuit of Toure was the interest elsewhere that they faced.

Nuno's side were always at some form of disadvantage after relegation, but there are still clear connections to the player's wishes, which prove why a move to E20 could be within his best interests.

According to Africa Foot, Saudi Arabian side Al-Diraiyah reached an agreement with Metz for Toure, but the player himself decided against the move.

The Senegalese midfielder is keen to stay in Europe and is open to taking the next step in his career.

Toure is said to have already given a principle agreement to West Ham, who are ready to pay £6million for his services.

The player's dream is to play in the Premier League, and with promotion Nuno's number one aim next season, he may only have to wait a year at the London Stadium.

But would he make the drop to the Championship?

Toure's stance on Championship move

West Ham's interest in Toure started in the winter window, when there was still a chance that the Irons were going to be a Premier League club come the start of next season.

It may be possible that relegation has put a spanner in the works for this transfer.

However, according to journalist Alan Nixon, Toure is willing and "prepared to play in the Championship for the right team".

With West Ham favoured to smash the Championship next season, it makes it a no-brainer for Toure to come to E20.

But the ball is now in West Ham's court, as the recent offer from Al-Diraiyah is set to revive attention for the youngster.
