Why George Earthy already has West Ham United with tail between their legs

George Earthy is already proving West Ham United wrong following his move to Reading.

The former Rush Green talent was deemed not good enough by the club this summer, paving the way for his permanent exit.

The midfielder used to be highly rated in E20, and came through the ranks at an early age, having success in the EFL.

Earthy had two loan spells with Bristol City, and though his time with the Robins didn't go to plan last term, he could have offered Nuno Espirito Santo something this campaign.

Internally, the club felt they had enough young talent to give an opportunity to, but sold the 21-year-old to Reading for peanuts instead.

Now, Earthy is already starting to make West Ham look foolish for giving up on one of their own so early.

West Ham gave no real time or thought for Earthy, and should have recalled him from his loan with Bristol City in the winter.

He only made 11 appearances in total at Ashton Gate last campaign, and it's no surprise given the system was not suited to his strengths at all.

They sold the versatile midfielder to Reading for a measly £600,000, which is really a slap in the face for all those that helped the youngster along his way at Rush Green.

Now, Earthy is already off the mark for the Royals, scoring a fine left-footed finish in his league debut for the club.

He scored in his side's 5-0 win over Mansfield on Wednesday, and his first start came in a 3-0 Carabao Cup victory over Stevenage.

Given there are the likes of Soungoutou Magassa who don't even want to be at the London Stadium, the Hammers could have done with keeping Earthy.

Which academy product can make West Ham forget about Earthy?

West Ham have already shown trust in some of their youngsters this season.

And what do you know? They have been a success so far.

Lewis Orford is one particular player who can make the Hammers forget about Earthy, as the midfielder has started the season on fine form.

He grabbed a brace of assists in the 4-1 win over Southampton in the Carabao Cup, but was recently unavailable for the win against Wolves in the league.

So long as Orford keeps performing for the Irons, they will be quick to forget about Earthy, who is destined for success in his own career.
