Why Edvin Austbo views West Ham as a stepping stone after revealing 'bigger club' ambition

Edvin Austbo may rub West Ham United fans the wrong way with his latest transfer admission.

The winger joined the Hammers on a permanent deal from Norwegian side Viking, and has settled into life in E20.

The 21-year-old made his debut in the 4-2 win over Wolves, before grabbing a goal and an assist in his following cameo appearance against Derby.

He was in Nuno Espirito Santo's matchday squad to face Wrexham on Friday, but was an unused substitute, despite the Irons making the maximum amount of changes.

He will most likely play second fiddle to Manor Solomon this season, with the latter currently on fire after a stellar start to the campaign.

But Austbo may have shown his age in a new interview, one which West Ham fans may not be too happy about.

Austbo is clearly a talented youngster, and has impressed in the early stages of his career at the London Stadium.

He was hooked by Nuno in the 3-2 win over Bolton, and may need some time to adapt to the Championship.

The Norway U21 international joined the Hammers on a long-term deal, meaning he needs to prove himself to supporters for many years to come.

However, while speaking in an interview with Stavanger Aftenblad, Austbo revealed his goals at West Ham, making an admission about life after the Hammers.

He said: "Everything felt right with West Ham. The goal is to reach the Premier League, and that’s West Ham’s plan too.

"I’d like to play for an even bigger club in the future, even though West Ham is huge."

It sounds like Austbo views West Ham as a stepping stone.

Maybe he has more leniency to make this type of admission, considering the Hammers' Championship status, but he's clearly not going to be the next Jarrod Bowen.

Where Austbo can fit into Nuno's plans

Solomon had another strong performance for West Ham against Wrexham, picking up a goal and an assists in a 90-minute performance.

Austbo didn't get a single minute, and it may not bode well for his future chances of starting.

But what Hammers fans have been quick to find out is that the Championship waits for nobody.

Games come quickly and fast: Saturday, Tuesday, or Sunday, Wednesday.

That said, Austbo is the perfect man to be swapped in for Solomon to prevent the latter from burning out.

But the youngster does need to be careful with his words.
