Why Edson Alvarez's West Ham exit has just taken another twist as fresh approach made
Edson Alvarez remains on course to leave West Ham United, but perhaps not to the destination initially expected.
The Mexico international spent last season on loan in Super Lig with Fenerbahce.
Alvarez is looking for another route out of West Ham this summer, with the Irons happy to oblige.
Real Sociedad are believed to have agreed a deal for Alvarez, but nothing has been confirmed yet.
And that has opened the door for another club to potentially now pounce for the 28-year-old.
That sets up an intriguing conclusion to the summer transfer window for Alvarez.
Who else is now in running to sign Edson Alvarez?
West Ham will be eager to get Alvarez off their books for good this summer, regardless of where he ends up.
LaLiga outfit Sociedad looked set to confirm a deal for Alvarez, but it has gone quiet on that front over the past few days.
Now, Thrylos 7 International reports via X on Sunday that 48-time Greek champions Olympiacos have made an approach for the Mexican midfielder.
That could leave Alvarez choosing between either Sociedad or Olympiacos for his next club as his three-year stay in the English capital comes to an end.
Either way, there is one clause West Ham simply cannot settle for.
West Ham need to be firm over Alvarez exit terms
It has been clear for a while now that Alvarez has no future at the London Stadium.
The worry is that there is now just a week or so remaining of the transfer window and he is still around in East London.
Alvarez is one of West Ham's highest earners, so it is imperative he moves on if not part of Nuno Espirito Santo's plans, which he isn't.
With just two years to run on his contract, West Ham cannot afford to loan Alvarez out again.
Instead, a permanent sale is needed, whether that be to Sociedad, Olympiacos or anyone else.
Fingers crossed the next update in this transfer saga is confirmation of his permanent exit going through.
