What West Ham-linked Sydie Peck has said about his future as Sheffield United aim revealed
Sheffield United midfielder Sydie Peck has been speaking about his future amid links to West Ham United.
Nuno Espirito Santo is sure to want at least one central midfielder added to his West Ham squad before the summer transfer window closes.
Having lost Freddie Potts and Mateus Fernandes, the Hammers' midfield engine room is running off little depth at present.
Peck has been linked with a move to West Ham for some time now, as the 21-year-old continues to establish himself as one of the Championship's best young players.
Having broken into Sheffield United's senior side in 2024, he's since gone on to make 90 competitive appearances for the Blades, as well as earning England youth recognition.
But, knowledge of his talent is no longer restricted to the walls of Bramall Lane, and question marks over his long-term Blades future remain as interest seemingly grows for his services.
What Sydie Pecks wants to do at Sheffield United
Peck didn't begin his footballing journey with Sheffield United, as he spent over a decade in Arsenal's academy system prior to joining Blades.
However, it's in the Steel City where he's really found a base from which he's launched his professional career, but he may soon be destined for bigger and greater things.
But maybe not just yet though, as he's admitted when speaking in an interview via The Star.
“I joined (Sheffield United) when I was 16 and the gaffer’s given me every debut since,” he said.
“From Premier League to Championship and in the cup. The staff as well, Mickey Collins. I've got a lot of stuff to pay back. They've helped me become the player I am today.
“Since I joined, I've always felt at home. They've helped me in many ways. I just want to keep repaying that and winning games of football for this football club and helping contribute.
“At the end of the day, I'm still 21. Yet again, age is just a number, isn't it? I don't really look into that. All the talk and things like that.
"I've got a Sheffield United shirt on now. I'm a Sheffield United player. I'm signed to Sheffield United. That's my aim. My head's down.
"This still feels like home. It's always been like that since I've arrived."
So, it would appear that Peck would take a lot of convincing to leave Sheffield United this summer, but why would it be wise for West Ham to ask the question regardless?
What is Sydie Peck's contract situation at Sheffield United?
Peck, who was nominated for the 2025-26 EFL Young Championship Player of the Season award, may well feel like Sheffield United is home, but his contract situation at Bramall Lane may soon help call that into question.
The all-action central midfielder is only contracted with Blades until June 2028, meaning he's now got under two years left on his deal.
So, if Sheffield United don't decide to sell him this summer, they'd potentially be putting themselves in a risky situation come this time next year if they haven't extended his deal by then.
Depending on how this campaign goes, his value could drop significantly from where it currently sits due to him then only having 12 months left to run on his contract, and especially if he suffers an untimely injury or alarming dip in form.
Sheffield United are also in a tricky financial spot with their parachute payments ending this summer, and that sizeable loss of financial support could increase pressure on them to sell more key assets moving forward than they previously needed to.
West Ham could provide a helpful answer for all parties.
