Oliver Scarles will be at the heart of West Ham United's immediate rebuild at the London Stadium.

The 20-year-old emerged from Rush Green and became an instant genuine option for the first-team.

However, the Hammers may need to raise approximately £250million in sales, so his name was one that could secure pure profit.

However, selling one of their most promising homegrown talents would set off major alarm bells.

And after Manchester United were mentioned with Scarles, some nerves had started to kick in.

What is the latest on Manchester United's pursuit of Oliver Scarles?

Manchester United are understood to have made checks on Scarles' availability, after doing the same for Crysencio Summerville.

Ben Jacobs reported on The United Stand on Thursday that nothing has gone further or developed past that.

Speaking on a live broadcast, he said: “They’ve assessed some young names, like Oliver Scarles at West Ham United, as a full-back option, who is relatively versatile.

“I’m not aware of anything developing."

So, it appears that Scarles will not be on the chopping block at the London Stadium just yet.

Why selling Scarles would have been disastrous for West Ham

If Scarles did depart, it would be a huge loss for the Irons, in terms of both on and off the pitch ahead of the Championship.

He represents exactly what supporters want to see in the squad, the West Ham way that comes from the academy, and has the fight required to secure promotion.

That was evident when he was in tears after making a mistake that allowed Fulham to score in a 1-0 loss in December.

He is likely to get more opportunities in the Championship, which could develop him into a better player for when the E20 side are back in the top-flight, if they secure automatic promotion.

Therefore, Nuno Espirito Santo will be glad that the Red Devils have not decided to move forward with interest in his star prospect just yet.

He now has the chance to turn himself into a regular in East London, and prove to the Old Trafford side that they should have took a chance on him when they could have.

Nuno and his side will be glad they that did not, though, as they are set to benefit from having him around next season.
