West Ham winger expected to join Portuguese club today – BBC Sport
Out-of-favour West Ham winger Felipe Anderson is expected to join Porto on loan today (Tuesday), according to BBC Sport.
While the English transfer window closed on Monday night, the Portuguese window doesn’t close until Tuesday night, allowing the Brazilian to make the move from London to Porto.
Anderson is expected to make the move on Tuesday so he can be registered for Porto’s Champions League squad, the deadline for registration is 23:00 BST on Tuesday, meaning the Portuguese side will want the deal done before then.
Anderson has been limited to Premier League appearances off the bench this season, only coming on in losses to both Newcastle United and Arsenal.
He has however started in the Carabao Cup for the Hammers and scored in the Irons’ 3-0 win over Charlton Athletic at the London Stadium.
The Brazilian was West Ham’s record signing when he arrived from Lazio in 2018 and his debut season was by far his most productive. He scored nine and assisted four goals in the 2018/19 season across 36 appearances in the Premier League.
However, he only scored once in 25 appearances last term and has seemingly fallen out of favour in the mind of David Moyes.
Moyes seems to favour starting Pablo Fornals and Jarrod Bowen on the wings this season, leaving only a place on the bench for Anderson.
The move makes sense for all parties. Anderson gets a move to a top club to get first-team football, and West Ham could be getting one of their biggest earners off the pay-roll if Porto are paying the Brazilian’s wages.
Reports on Monday night also suggested a potential deal could include an option to buy, meaning the Hammers could recoup some of the reported £36million transfer fee they forked out to bring Anderson to the London Stadium.
