West Ham want to sign Stephen Mavididi – report

West Ham want to sign Ligue 1 striker Stephen Mavididi from Montpellier this month but it will take a ‘maxi offer’ according to TuttoMercatoWeb.

The Hammers are keen to sign a striker this month to help provide competition and cover for first-choice frontman Michail Antonio.

While they have been linked with an abundance of names in the summer, the latest to come up is former Arsenal academy star Mavididi who plies his trade in France currently.

Mavididi has scored eight goals and registered three assists in 21 games this season and West Ham have taken an interest in the 23-year-old.

However according to TuttoMercatoWeb it would take a ‘maxi offer’ to convince Montpellier to sell him this month, although he ‘could return to the Premier League’.

Desperation

This is a signing that seems to smell of desperation for the Hammers, with Mavididi not quite of the calibre of name they are hoping for.

The likes of Patrick Shick, Gabriel Barbosa and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have been tipped to come through the door in east London at different points this month.

But while the name value isn’t necessarily there, Mavididi offers a solid option for Moyes to work with and to help bolster the squad.

He is a very strong finisher and while his overall game isn’t the most refined, we’ve seen what Moyes can do to help mould a player as he has done with Antonio, Jarrod Bowen and others during his time there.

Hammers fans should trust Moyes if this is the move he opts for this month, he hasn’t done much wrong since joining the club and has earned that right.
