West Ham want to sign Porto striker Samu Aghehowa as Potter identifies top target

West Ham are in the market for a centre-forward this summer with Porto striker Samu Ahgehowa on their radar.

The Hammers have endured a disappointing season in the Premier League, and currently sit in 16th place, having struggled in both boxes throughout the campaign.

West Ham’s striker roster has been chaotic. Michail Antonio and Niclas Fullkrug missed most of the season with injury, while Evan Ferguson has made just one start since joining on loan from Brighton in January.

This has now meant that Graham Potter has made signing a striker his top priority, and several targets are on his radar.

Potter wants to sign Samu Aghehowa from Porto

Potter has his eye on several strikers, but some could be difficult deals for West Ham to complete, with Liam Delap a reported target.

Several English clubs are interested in Delap, while Lille’s Jonathan David is also attracting interest from Spain and Italy.

The Sunday People (page 49, April 13) have now reported that Porto attacker Aghehowa is of interest to Potter.

Aghehowa, formerly known as Samu Omorodion, was the subject of interest from Chelsea last summer, before he joined Porto from Atletico Madrid, and he has since thrived.

Aghehowa would be an excellent signing for West Ham

If Aghehowa is open to moving to the London Stadium, then he would be an excellent signing for West Ham in the short and long term.

The Spain international was already regarded as a top talent at Atletico Madrid, but he has since hit new heights with regular game time at Porto, having struck 22 goals this season in 37 games.

At 20, Aghehowa has a lot of potential to improve, and he would be a good stylistic fit for Potter at West Ham.

The attacker would bring speed and strength in abundance, meaning he could be a long-term replacement for Antonio, while his deadly finishing ability could see him produce a lot of output in front of goal.
