West Ham want to sign Kelleher as £20m Liverpool exit revelation emerges

West Ham are in the market for a new goalkeeper in the summer transfer window.

Graham Potter had seemed to have finally settled on Alphonse Areola as his number one between the sticks after competition between the Frenchman and Lukas Fabianski earlier in the season.

However, it appears that he is not satisfied with the 32-year-old, who has kept just three clean sheets in 20 Premier League matches with West Ham eyeing up heroic Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.

West Ham set for Kelleher swoop from Liverpool

West Ham are understood to like Caoimhin Kelleher and could swoop to sign the Irish star with Liverpool ready to sanction a deal.

A report from the Sun’s print edition (13 April, page 57) claims that the Hammers are keen to strike a deal with the Reds for the 26-year-old.

It states that the Irons would like to sign the Anfield ace on loan but the Merseysiders are seeking a permanent deal and rate him around the £20million mark.

Kelleher would be a great signing for West Ham

The London Stadium outfit find themselves in 16th place in the top-flight and a huge factor in that position is the fact that they have conceded 52 goals in 31 matches.

Kelleher would help to solve that issue as he is a great shot stopper, a calm presence behind the backline and the ability to pass out from the back.

He has shown that he is capable of being a number one in the division after making 10 appearances due to injuries to Alisson and has performed incredibly well in numerous penalty shoot-out situations.

In those matches, he has kept four clean sheets, one more than Areola has in double the number of games, so he would be a clear upgrade on the Frenchman.

However, just signing a new goalkeeper would not solve all of Potter’s issues, he needs defensive reinforcements too, to stop the heavy amount of shots that his side have faced.

If the former Brighton man and recruitment supremo Kyle Macaulay can get it right in the upcoming window, it could be a very positive season for the East London club and signing Kelleher would be a great start.
