West Ham want to sign ex-Irons trialist Owen Otasowie from Wolves

West Ham want to sign former trialist Owen Otasowie from Premier League rivals Wolves, according to Belgian news outlet Voetbalkrant.

The 20-year-old USA international went on trial at Rush Green in 2017 but the Irons rejected the chance to sign him on a permanent basis [Birmingham Live] before he made the move to the West Midlands.

Otasowie played six times in the Premier League for Wolves last term, but he is now seeking more regular opportunities elsewhere after turning down a new contract at Molineux.

West Ham have expressed “concrete interest” in the central midfielder, as per Voetbalkrant’s report, but it’s believed that he is on the verge of a move to Belgium to link up with Club Brugge.

Where are the senior stars?

Perhaps his 2017 Irons snub inspired Otasowie as he has gone away and proven himself in the youth ranks at a Premier League club, making impressive strides last season with a top-flight debut against Chelsea.

But is he someone that could come in and make an instant impact at the London Stadium?

Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek look assured of a place in the Irons engine room this season, but with only the ageing Mark Noble and inexperienced Conor Coventry behind them, a new central midfielder will surely be sought before the end of the transfer window.

If Coventry is kept around, would we really need Otasowie? Would he not block the path of the Republic of Ireland youth international further?

It all looks academic with Club Brugge set to sign him, but we’d still rather hear reports that we are targeting a senior central midfielder to compete with Rice and Soucek.

In other West Ham news, the Irons want to sign this ‘Brilliant’ young attacker who shone on Sky Sports on the weekend.
