West Ham want to seal £26m Alexsandro transfer as Nuno Espirito Santo woes continue

Nuno Espirito Santo will be hoping West Ham United enter the market for some reinforcements in the upcoming January transfer window.

Leeds United defeated West Ham 2-1 at Elland Road in their most recent Premier League fixture.

The defeat away from home means that Nuno is winless since he replaced Graham Potter as West Ham manager

With pressure mounting on the Hammers’ manager, a change in personnel and direction may be needed to resurrect their season, as they sit 19th.

West Ham target Alexsandro Victor de Souza Ribeiro

West Ham have set their sights on Alexsandro Victor de Souza Ribeiro, known simply as Alexsandro, to strengthen their squad this winter, according to ESPN Brazil on 23 October.

It is understood that Lille value the defender, who is contracted until the summer of 2026, at around £26million.

However, while the Brazilian is keen to take the next step in his career, he is said to have doubts about the “timing” of a possible transfer to the Premier League.

Alexsandro, who recently debuted for the Brazilian national team, reportedly fears taking time to adapt to the Premier League, which could result in him losing his spot on his national side.

Nevertheless, he is an exciting talent, and £26m to secure his services seems to be a bargain price.

West Ham have also been linked with Ivan Toney, as Nuno’s plans for West Ham this winter continue to become clear.

How would Alexsandro Victor de Souza Ribeiro improve West Ham?

Alexsandro is a modern-day defender who is comfortable on the ball and can size up against his man.

He is both aggressive and physical on the ball and when engaging in duels, which is perfect given the physicality of the Premier League.

Furthermore, he has also completed 100 per cent of his dribbles according to Sofascore, and has won 69 per cent of his duels.

While the defender started well for Lille, he has been sidelined with a dead leg since the end of September.

Therefore, if Alexsandro arrives at the London Stadium, he will bring with him strength, technicality and ball-playing ability, which could see him thrive if given the chance.

With West Ham’s woes defending corners and long balls very evident, it is no surprise to see yet more defenders appearing on the shortlist for Nuno.
