West Ham want Fulham star who played at London Stadium – ExWHUemployee

West Ham United have a long-term interest in Fulham striker Rodrigo Muniz as Graham Potter looks for new signings, according to ExWHUemployee.

The West Ham Way source reports (15 January) that having first identified Muniz as a possible target during Julen Lopetegui’s reign, the Irons’ interest has continued.

Potter, appointed on 9 January, has held meetings with the Irons’ recruitment team since taking charge, with a striker top priority after Niclas Fullkrug’s latest injury.

Muniz came off the bench in the Hammers’ 3-2 victory over Fulham at the London Stadium on 14 January, and a loan with an option to buy looks the most likely deal.

Rodrigo Muniz transfer could solve striker problems at West Ham

Upon taking the job at the London Stadium last week, Potter will have known that signing a striker before 3 February is crucial to him having any sort of success in claret and blue this season.

Inheriting a squad which – despite having over £120million spent on it just last summer – looks ill-equipped for a top-half push in the Premier League, Potter and the Hammers have plenty of work to do.

Fullkrug’s addition for £27million a matter of months ago couldn’t have gone much worse, and even if he wasn’t injured, the German international is still one of three Irons strikers on the wrong side of 30.

At 23, Muniz is eight years younger than any of the current options at Potter’s disposal, which with Fullkrug and Michail Antonio out for the long term, leaves just Danny Ings as the only natural striker.

Signing Muniz, who didn’t get a look-in until the latter stages of Fulham’s loss in East London on Tuesday despite being a consistent goalscorer, could therefore prove to be a shrewd acquisition.
