West Ham United are prepared to pay up to £17m to sign Valencia midfielder Yunus Musah as part of their plan to replace Declan Rice, according to Estadio Deportivo.

The American midfielder has shone for the La Liga club in recent years despite his age, making 108 appearances for the club in all competitions despite being just 20-years-old.

But with their financial problems growing Musah is seen as one of the biggest saleable assets and West Ham are interested in signing him, although their price is lower than the £21m Valencia want to allow him to leave.

“Yunus Musah has a contract with Valencia CF until June 30, 2026,” they wrote. 

“He is shielded with a termination clause of €100 million (£85.6m), but the drop in performance of the 20-year-old footballer in this last season and the need to sell Valencia CF means that his departure is closer than ever, being able to leave for around €25 million (£21.4m). For now, West Ham remains at around €20 million (£17m).”

Musah would be a very impressive signing for West Ham this summer and would come into a side looking to get better with a hole to fill in midfield.

Already a full international with plenty of experience at the highest level, his athleticism and technical abilities were really on show during the World Cup and he did well against England and Rice directly back in November.

£21m seems like a very good price in this window when you consider he has a long time remaining on his contract and has a very high release clause, but West Ham are right to try and get them to lower it a little too.

We don’t want to splash cash just for the sake of it as we will need more than just one player to come in and replace the skipper when he goes to Arsenal, and we have other areas that need to be addressed too.

Musah would be a great start to the window though and would bring something to the midfield that will be lacking without Rice and at a more than fair price. This is one to be excited about if it happens.
