West Ham United will only sanction Maxwel Cornet exit on permanent deal amid Everton loan interest
West Ham United will only allow Maxwel Cornet to leave the club permanently before Friday’s transfer deadline, according to Sean Whetstone.
Writing on his official Twitter account (31 August), the editor of 6Foot2 reports that the club are not interested in a loan exit for the Ivory Coast international.
Everton are said to be keen on a loan deal before Friday’s 11pm deadline, but West Ham will not sanction a loan exit according to sources close to the club.
“Maxwel Cornet will not be loaned out, only possibility of him leaving West Ham this summer would be on a permanent deal,” he wrote.
“Confirmed by sources close to the club.”
Makes sense
Cornet has struggled since joining the club last summer from Burnley, with injuries really taking their toll on him.
But there is no doubting that he is a quality footballer and if he’s fit enough to play regularly then there is a space for him in the squad.

Obviously selling him would mean getting some money in and potentially bringing in a replacement, but a loan doesn’t help anyone but the club trying to sign him and if that’s Everton they could probably be considered a direct rival in the Premier League.
There’s no benefit to a loan deal unless it contains an obligation to make the deal permanent in the future, and so this update certainly makes sense from a West Ham point of view.
We’ll see how it develops in the coming hours with the deadline inching closer, and it’s one to watch with so many moving parts at both clubs.
