West Ham United weighing up improved bid for Conor Gallagher as Chelsea reject initial approach
West Ham are weighing up whether to make an improved bid for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher after seeing their first offer rejected, according to Sky Sports.
The news outlet reported on 25 July that the Blues had turned down a bid in the region of £40million for the England international.
Sky Sports believes Chelsea value the 23-year-old at “well in excess” of the fee offered by the Hammers and that a potential departure would likely have to be driven by the player himself.

Well short
It sounds as though West Ham’s bid for the midfielder falls well short of Chelsea’s valuation, with the Metro reporting on 12 July that they are looking for a fee of at least £50m.
The difficulty for the Hammers is that Gallagher has two years left on his deal at Stamford Bridge and a number of other Premier League clubs have been linked with him this summer, so the Blues aren’t going to be in any rush to sell him.
The £105million deal to take Declan Rice to Arsenal has also put pressure on the Irons when negotiating for transfers, as other sides know that we have money to spend and that we are desperate to bring in reinforcements in midfield.

The £40million offered for the England international seems to be around the same region that the Hammers have been making to sign other targets, so it’s clear we’re not looking to spend much more than this on one individual player.
It’s probably time for the club’s hierarchy to go back and reflect on where they’re at with other targets before making a fresh offer to Chelsea for the midfielder.
But they can’t afford to wait too long, as time is ticking ahead of the start of the new Premier League campaign.
In other West Ham news, David Moyes and Tim Steidten are already stuck in a transfer rift.
