West Ham United watch on as Matias Soule transfer battle with Leicester City heats up

West Ham United are keeping a close eye on developments as the transfer saga around Juventus ace Marias Soule goes on, according to Giovanni Albanese.

The Italian journalist reported via X on 16 July that despite Roma’s interest, the Serie A side have yet to make a bid for the Argentina international.

Albanese adds that West Ham have been waiting for Premier League rivals Leicester City to launch their latest bid, with the Irons closely observing.

Juventus will not accept a fee under £25.2million for the attacker.

Matias Soule would be an ideal transfer for West Ham United

In order to get back into European football and improve on their ninth-placed finish from last season, further additions will have to be made to West Ham’s squad.

Julen Lopetegui has already started to sure up his defence by signing ex-Wolves captain Max Kilman for a fee of £40m.

And, although the Hammers’ defence was one of the weakest areas of the team last season, their strikers weren’t much better.

Jarrod Bowen and Mohammed Kudus had to carry the entire team on their backs and lead the line for David Moyes’ side last term.

Which is why over the course of summer, it hasn’t been much of a surprise to see attackers added to Lopetegui’s ranks and plenty of players being linked with a move to the capital [Caught Offside, 15 July].

Soule would be an ideal addition as he can play across the front three and provide the London-based club with further options. For a fee of around £25m, it feels like a no-brainer.

In other West Ham news, the Hammers are also readying themselves for the transfer of a Serie A centre-back.
