West Ham United watch Archie Brown closely as new Gent transfer update emerges

West Ham are interested in signing Gent full-back Archie Brown with a return to England on the cards, according to TBR Football.

The online source reported [9 November] that the Hammers are set to face competition from Tottenham, Brentford, Fulham and Leeds United for his signature, all of whom have watched the player closely this season.

Chelsea have also been credited with an interest in the 22-year-old, who was linked with a move to the London Stadium during the summer transfer window, with a £17million price tag mooted [The Mirror].

West Ham United to target Archie Brown transfer again?

A new left-back signing would make a lot of sense for the Hammers, given the current options at Julen Lopetegui’s disposal right now.

While Emerson is the first choice at the London Stadium, and rightly so, and a number of new players were added to the squad during the summer transfer window, there is a lack of options at left-back.

Aaron Creswell, 34, was handed a one-year contract extension during the summer, meaning his current deal will now end at the end of the 2024/25 campaign after 11 years in East London.

Though he has accumulated 354 appearances for the Hammers over the seasons, his time at the London Stadium looks to be coming to a close, and Brown could be the perfect replacement.

Having made a name for himself in Derby County’s academy, he moved to Lausanne in Switzerland before joining Gent on a free transfer in the summer of 2023.

The left-back has become a regular figure for the Belgian side, gaining valuable experience on the international stage in the Europa Conference League, and is able to help in the attacking third.

If the Hammers are to strike a deal for the 22-year-old, they will need to act fast given the amount of interest in the defender so far.

In other West Ham news, Tim Steidten can save himself from a fallout if he signs a “complete” striker in January.
