West Ham United want to sign Oleksandr Zinchenko to play in midfield

West Ham want to sign Manchester City ace Oleksandr Zinchenko to bolster his midfield options rather than play left-back, according to The Mirror [June 7].

The Hammers have been linked with a move for the four-time Premier League champion, with club insider ExWHUemployee reporting on June 2 that the club want to swoop for him this summer.

But after spending several years in the City squad playing as a left-back under Pep Guardiola, the 25-year-old is looking to move back into his natural midfield role and the east London club are interested in making it happen.

Zinchenko plays in midfield for his country and started as a number ten when Ukraine faced Scotland and Wales in World Cup qualifiers this past week, impressing with his technical abilities.

But his ability to also fill in at full-back would also be a big help to Moyes as he looks to bolster his squad and the reported £40m price tag [Claret & Hugh] is being looked at by the club.

Depth

Whenever Moyes is linked with a player, they almost always usually are able to play in more than one position because versatility is a key part of the game.

Zinchenko fits that mould, being able to play at left-back or as an eight or ten in midfield too. But the primary calling for his signing should certainly be higher up the pitch.

West Ham

In the Man City side he is often protected at left-back because of the dominant style in which they’re able to keep the ball and advance up the pitch for the vast majority of the game.

At West Ham he wouldn’t have such luxuries and those qualities on the ball would be better used in midfield, alongside the likes of Declan Rice and Jarrod Bowen.

The price is a bit high but considering what he brings to the side, he would be a top signing and the club should be looking seriously into getting a deal done that suits all parties.
