West Ham United want to sign Lyon star Rayan Cherki as PSG transfer update drops

West Ham United are in the race to sign Lyon star Rayan Cherki this summer, but PSG lead the race according to Get French Football News.

Writing on their website (24 June), the news outlet report that the 20-year-old is set to leave the Ligue 1 giants this summer as he enters the final year of his deal and has no intention of signing an extension.

PSG are hopeful of agreeing a deal for the playmaker but his agent is the mother of Kylian Mbappe, and the relationship between her and the club’s hierarchy is strained after his move to Real Madrid which could open the door for the Hammers and Borussia Dortmund to hijack a deal.

West Ham United to sign Rayan Cherki to replace Lucas Paqueta?

The summer at the London Stadium has largely been dominated by talk around Lucas Paqueta’s future, after he was charged with spot-fixing.

There is plenty of speculation that the club will need to find an alternative for the Brazilian, although it’s believed that a hearing is several months away [The Sun, 4 June] at least.

Cherki has previously been described as “unbelievable” and “one of the best players on Earth” by Frank Leboeuf [ESPN, 12 July 2023], and if he is available for a cut-price fee due to his contract status then Tim Steidten should be all over it.

This is the type of transfer the club should be looking for, with the 20-year-old incredibly talented and sure to attract interest in the future if he continues with his development at a similar rate.

PSG’s problems with his representatives will allow the team a short window to jump in and get a deal done, and if they’re seriously interested they will make that move quickly.

In other West Ham news, £50.7m could be enough for the club to sell one star after Manchester United made contact for a transfer.
