West Ham United want to sign KRC Genk defender Mark McKenzie, discussions ongoing

West Ham United want to sign KRC Genk defender Mark McKenzie this summer with discussions ongoing, according to Sacha Tavolieri.

Speaking on a YouTube video for Unibet Belgium (3 April), the reliable Belgian journalist reports that the Hammers “adore” the 25-year-old USMNT international centre-back.

West Ham have already held talks with the player’s camp but Genk are under no pressure to sell him this summer, and no deal is close to being agreed currently as things stand.

Big summer ahead of West Ham United

There is going to be plenty of business done for West Ham during the summer transfer window, with many expecting changes in the attacking third of the pitch.

Lucas Paqueta has been linked with a move to Manchester City and if he were to leave then the Hammers would definitely need to bring in a replacement or two.

But defensively there is likely to be changes too, and it’s still unclear who the manager is going to be which makes it harder to narrow down targets.

Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd have both been linked with moves to Saudi Arabia this summer, while Angelo Ogbonna and Aaron Cresswell are at the end of their contracts too.

McKenzie is a player who will come into the side in the prime of his career and looking to compete for a starting spot, but still cheap enough to not take a chunk out of the budget and that sounds like a positive thing for the Hammers at this stage.

In other West Ham news, Paul Merson admits he “feels sorry” for one Hammers star.
