West Ham United want to sign Ipswich Town star Leif Davis to replace Aaron Cresswell

West Ham are keeping tabs on Ipswich Town defender Leif Davis ahead of the summer transfer window, according to talkSPORT.

The broadcaster reported on its website on Tuesday (27 February) that the Hammers are joined in the race for the 24-year-old by Newcastle United after he’s registered 14 assists in the Championship for the Tractor Boys this season.

It added that the Irons are in the market for a new left-back as they look to replace Aaron Cresswell after he’s fallen down the pecking order at the London Stadium.

Leif Davis would add quality to West Ham options

There is little doubt that West Ham will bring in a left-back in the summer transfer window and Davis should be near the top of the list.

The Englishman has been in fine form this season for Ipswich, having registered nearly an assist a game in their bid for promotion.

The last fullback who made the move to the Hammers from Portman Road was actually Cresswell and, if Davis could be anywhere near as successful as the 34-year-old in East London, then we would have an excellent player on our hands.

David Moyes has largely had a successful spell with West Ham

While first-choice left-back Emerson could be hard to topple for a starting spot at the London Stadium, there is no doubt that another option is certainly needed.

It’s a position that’s been earmarked as a priority throughout the past couple of windows, but whether Davis could be the man to come in may depend on whether or not the Tractor Boys go up this season.
