West Ham United want to sign Harry Maguire on loan-to-buy deal, Manchester United ready to sell

Manchester United are now ready to sell Harry Maguire with West Ham United and Newcastle United keen on signing the centre-back, according to TeamTalk.

The news outlet reported via their website on 10 March that Maguire, 30, earns a whopping £200,000-a-week at Old Trafford, meaning that a move to West Ham or Newcastle would be on a loan-to-buy basis.

It is understood that Erik ten Hag wants to sign an “elite” striker in the summer transfer window and offloading Maguire would go a long way towards funding that.

West Ham

No, thanks

Let’s focus on the here and now because as it stands, West Ham might not be a Premier League club next season and if that’s the case, Maguire obviously isn’t going to be signed.

His wages are excessive and don’t come anywhere near matching his performances.

Sure, some players leave clubs like Man United and flourish. Jonny Evans is a good example while we all know what Jesse Lingard was capable of – before it was ruined by his own accord – in his loan spell at the London Stadium.

But Maguire has been in a rut for too long now and while he’s been good for England over the last few years and is Man United’s official club captain, there’s nothing that can convince us that he’d be worth the money Man United would want for him.

West Ham United

Maguire’s best option, for his sake, would be to leave Man United permanently and agree to slash his wages at least by half because no one in their right mind will pay over £100,000-a-week for him.

Those who will are in the Middle East and the former Leicester centre-back doesn’t strike us as a player who’d be up for that.

West Ham need defensive reinforcements whether or not they’re a Premier League club next season.

But Maguire simply isn’t the answer.
