West Ham United want to sign ‘fantastic’ Morgan Whittaker as £4m+ Plymouth transfer update shared by pundit

West Ham are chasing the signature of Plymouth Argyle forward Morgan Whittaker, according to Carlton Palmer.

The talkSPORT pundit believes that fellow Premier League clubs Fulham and Brentford are interested in the 23-year-old.

But Palmer has urged the Plymouth man to stay at his current club for now and assess his options in the summer, with the Championship side likely to want over £4million for the forward.

“West Ham, Fulham and Brentford are all keen on Plymouth’s 23-year-old striker Morgan Whittaker,” Palmer told Football League World. “Morgan has 14 goals to his name already this season. It is acknowledged that Morgan is having a fantastic season thus far, but you have to take into consideration that this is his first season scoring on a prolific basis.

“Plymouth paid £1million for him from Swansea, where Whittaker struggled. Whittaker should ignore the speculation for now and continue in the form he is in, and assess his future in the summer.

“But, as we know in football, if a huge fee is tabled then a club like Plymouth will have to accept it and hope to reinvest the money in another young talent. Plymouth would want at least £4million+ for a young player who only seems as if he’s going to keep improving.”

On the move?

Whittaker has certainly impressed this season, with the attacker boasting 15 goals and six assists from his 29 appearances in all competitions.

Such form is undoubtedly going to attract attention from elsewhere, and West Ham could certainly do a lot worse than bringing the forward to the London Stadium.

Hammers manager David Moyes should really be looking at bolstering his attacking options this month, not least because Mohammed Kudus is away on international duty.

More importantly, however, the East London club are trying to fight on various fronts, with West Ham keen to maintain their strong Premier League run as well as make it to the latter stages of the Europa League.

Moreover, the futures of the likes of wingers Said Benrahma and Maxwel Cornet remain up in the air. Moyes will have to act sooner rather than later if he wants to replace his current options with Whittaker, who is certain to attract more interest from other clubs should he continue on his current trajectory.
