West Ham United want to sign ex-Tottenham ace Marcus Edwards as Lopetegui revolution begins
West Ham United want to sign Marcus Edwards from Sporting Lisbon as they look to sign a winger this summer, according to The Mirror.
With Julen Lopetegui being appointed as Hammers head coach on Thursday (23 May) he will be looking to put his imprint on the squad.
This has seen Nathan Ridley report (24 May) that amongst a whole host of positions, a winger is under consideration this summer. Edwards from Sporting is one player who has been named as a target.
The Englishman is formerly of Tottenham and in his time there Mauricio Pochettino compared him to Lionel Messi.
Speaking to Sky Sports (September 2016), he said: “The qualities – it’s only looks, his body and the way that he plays – remember a little bit from the beginning of Messi.”
Should West Ham United sign Marcus Edwards?
With the glowing review coming from his former manager, it is clear that the winger has star quality which will make him a useful asset.
Edwards is primarily a winger who can play on either side but he can even as a number ten if needed.
He is a traditional wide man who likes to get the ball on the floor and dribble at his man to try and make things happen.
This sees him be proficient with crossing the ball to look to provide for his teammates. He has registered four assists this campaign [FotMob].
Despite featuring just 15 times from the start under Ruben Amorim, the Englishman has also scored four goals in Liga Portugal.

He is a threat on the counter attack with his pace which will make him a useful player against the better Premier League sides.
It is unclear as to how much he will cost but with Lopetegui looking to add to the squad this summer, Edwards could be worth the risk.
