West Ham United want to sign Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku, considering offer

West Ham want to sign Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea to bolster their striker options for Julen Lopetegui, according to GiveMeSport.

Writing on their website (26 June), the news outlet report that the Belgium striker has emerged as an alternative for prime target Jonathan David [iNews, 19 June], who is available for around £25million.

But the Hammers face big competition for the Canada international and Lukaku is available at Stamford Bridge after spending the last two seasons on loan in Serie A with Inter Milan and Roma.

West Ham know what a deal would cost, but want to clarify if the 31-year-old is interested in a move to the London Stadium before firming up their interest with an offer to their Premier League rivals.

West Ham United to splash out on a new striker signing?

West Ham and Chelsea have done a fair bit of business in recent times, with Emerson Palmieri and Kurt Zouma arriving from Stamford Bridge, so relations are good between the two clubs.

Lukaku’s goalscoring record throughout his career has been incredibly impressive, and with 85 goals in 116 international caps he is Belgium’s all-time top scorer.

Reports suggest that he could be available for around £38million [FootMercato, 1 June], but that is a big outlay for someone who is 31-years-old and arguably past the peak of their career at this stage.

However, with the way Julen Lopetegui wants to play a big target man striker would fit in well and surrounded by quality like Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen he could well rediscover the form that convinced Chelsea to splash out over £90million on him three years ago.

It’s certainly a situation to keep an eye on because Lukaku will definitely be on the move this summer, but there will be a host of interested parties so the Hammers will have to move quickly if they want this one done.
