West Ham United want to sign Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher in a £40m “cash deal” this summer, according to Chronicle Live.
Writing on their website (18 April), the news outlet reported that the England midfielder doesn’t want to leave Stamford Bridge after becoming a key player under Mauricio Pochettino, but the London club are keen to sell him to comply with PSR rules.
The Hammers and Tottenham are the teams most interested in the 24-year-old midfielder, and a deal worth around £40m straight up rather than with add-ons or players included has been mooted to be enough to find an agreement.
“The 24-year-old does not want to leave Chelsea but with the Blues having to comply with PSR rules, he could be offloaded with West Ham and Tottenham also interested in a cash deal,” they wrote.
“A fee of £40million for Gallagher has been mooted with the star currently earning around £50,000 per week.”

Midfield is going to be a position that the Hammers simply have to strengthen this summer, and Gallagher could be a perfect option.
Lucas Paqueta seems likely to leave with Manchester City interested and an £85million release clause becoming active, while Kalvin Phillips seems highly unlikely to be signed permanently after his horror loan spell.
That means several options will be needed, and Gallagher has proven that he is more than capable of playing at a high level in the Premier League and can add energy and goals to the side.
West Ham have always been at their best with a British core and Gallagher will know what the club means to the local community as a London boy himself, and his style of play will be something the fans enjoy.
But until the manager situation at the London Stadium is settled these are decisions that can’t be made, and if Spurs get Champions League football it will surely be difficult to win that battle.
