West Ham United want to sign Cameron Carter-Vickers as source close to Celtic star shares transfer update

West Ham United want to sign Celtic star Cameron Carter-Vickers this month to bolster their defensive options, according to Larry Henry Jr.

Writing on his personal Twitter account (16 January), the MLS transfer journalist reports that the USA international central defender has also attracted interest from Brentford and Nottingham Forest.

And a source close to the player has confirmed the interest from the Premier League, with West Ham looking at signing a new defender with the future of Nayef Aguerd up in the air and Angelo Ogbonna beginning to age.

“West Ham, Brentford, and Nottingham Forest are all targeting Celtic and #USMNT defender Cameron Carter-Vickers, a source close to the player confirmed to me today,” he wrote.

“CCV has made 110 combined apps for Celtic, lifting five trophies including domestic treble last season.”

Wow

Carter-Vickers has flopped in England before, failing to make it at Tottenham as a youngster before ending up in Glasgow with Celtic.

There he has emerged as one of the leading defenders in the division, if not the best, and gained experience at the highest level in the Champions League and international level.

But with a return to the Premier League there is no doubt that the level will be getting upped for him and that means there will be question marks about if he is good enough for the Hammers.

However, signing someone with such experience and having previously played in the Premier League isn’t an opportunity that comes along often and the player is likely to be relatively cheap in comparison because of the financial gap between England and Scotland.

It’s one to watch for sure, because a big offer will no doubt force Celtic to think about a transfer. If Aguerd leaves, or the boss decides he needs an extra body, then this could be the deal that gets done.
