West Ham United want to sign Brest attacker Karamoko Dembele as transfer twist emerges

West Ham have been linked with Brest winger Karamoko Dembele and could let him leave on loan immediately, according to The News.

Writing on their website (1 May), the news outlet reports that the “exciting” on-loan Blackpool attacker has attracted the attention of League One champions Portsmouth and Premier League sides Everton and the Hammers.

But should he make the move to the top flight after an outstanding season with Blackpool this term, then it could open the door for an immediate loan move to a lower league side as parent club Brest prepare for interest.

West Ham United have bigger priorities to address this summer

Dembele was a wonderkid during his time at Celtic and has really stepped up for Blackpool this season with nine goals and 14 assists, but moving from League One to the Premier League is a big jump.

This summer the Hammers have got a big rebuilding job on their hands with David Moyes expected to leave and a replacement needed, while Lucas Paqueta is expected to head up a list of at least five players leaving too.

All of those players will need replacing also, and as good as Dembele has been or could be in the future, he would surely be a downgrade on anyone currently in the squad.

While it would represent smart business from the club to tie down a top talent for the formative years of his career and loan him out to continue to develop elsewhere if he can’t help at the London Stadium, the club have bigger priorities to focus on.

If a deal is easy to do and won’t interfere with getting the big jobs done, then they should pull the trigger. But if not, then it won’t be the end of the world to miss out on this one.
