West Ham United want to sign Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly in ‘Complicated’ deal

West Ham United are interested in signing Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly in January, but a deal is described as “complicated” according to 90min.

Writing on their website (2 November), the news outlet report that the Cherries are keen to keep the defender as they battle relegation despite his contract expiring in June 2024.

And several clubs are circling for a potential deal in January, with the Hammers joining the likes of Tottenham, Newcastle, Liverpool and Fulham among the interested parties.

“Tottenham failed with a £20m bid for Kelly late in the summer window, with Bournemouth choosing to hold onto the former Ipswich Town man despite entering the final year of his contract,” they wrote.

90min reported in September that Spurs would likely return with an offer in January, though are expected to be rivalled by Liverpool and Newcastle United.

“Sources have told 90min that Fulham and West Ham United are now also keeping tabs on Kelly’s situation, which could be complicated by interest from abroad.”

Impressive

Central defence is an area that West Ham are looking to strengthen and Kelly would be a terrific addition to the side considering his abilities and age.

He is 25-years-old with Premier League experience and he’s only getting better, consistently standing out as one of the better performers in a pretty poor team.

With the future of Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd up in the air amid interest from Saudi Arabia in January reinforcements will be needed, and even if they stay Angelo Ogbonna is getting on now and will need replacing too.

Other clubs showing interest aren’t in a best-of-both-worlds position for him as they either can’t offer him regular first-team football or aren’t playing at the level that we are.

It would be a shrewd signing to get done and ideally a relatively cheap one considering his contract situation, so this is definitely one to watch in the coming weeks and months.
