West Ham United want to sign Australian sensation James Overy, work permit not needed

West Ham are in a battle to sign Perth Glory defender James Overy, according to Alan Nixon.

The Sun journalist reported on his Patreon on Sunday (29 October) that Everton are currently leading the chase ahead of the Hammers and Leicester City for the 16-year-old Australian.

He added that the right wing-back, who the Irons first spotted in their pre-season friendly against the A-League side over the summer, wouldn’t need a work permit because he already has a British passport courtesy of his Scottish mother.

It’s pretty clear that West Ham were impressed by what they saw from Overy in the friendly against Perth Glory, where the defender marked Jarrod Bowen.

Nixon revealed that he starred for Everton in a youth game last week, while he also previously turned out for the Hammers’ youngsters.

He added that the Scottish Football Association are keen for the teenager to represent them, proving that he’s a sought-after talent at all levels.

The job the Irons have on their hands is to try to persuade Overy that they are the best club to help with his development due to the interest surrounding him.

It will be an anxious wait for the club to find out where he sees his future as it appears as though they have some work to do to get him to sign on the dotted line at the London Stadium.

In other West Ham news, an £8million development has emerged in the club’s bid to sign Kalvin Phillips.
