West Ham United want to sign £21m+ wizard Gudmundsson as Fabrizio Romano colleague drops update

West Ham want to sign Genoa forward Albert Gudmundsson in the summer transfer window, according to Matteo Moretto.

Writing on Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing on Friday (9 February), the La Liga and Serie A insider said the Icelandic international is receiving interest from a number of teams, including Premier League sides, and that he will have “options to choose” from at the end of the season.

It comes after the Daily Mirror reported in its print edition on 23 January (page 48) that the Hammers were favourites to sign the 26-year-old, with the Italian club looking for at least £21million to sell him.

West Ham need more forward options

It was pretty clear heading into the January transfer window that West Ham needed more forward options and they didn’t manage to get any through the door.

It was surprising that the club didn’t have any targets lined up despite sanctioning late moves for both Said Benrahma and Pablo Fornals.

While the duo hadn’t been in great form for the best part of the past year, David Moyes doesn’t have much depth when his key players get injured in the attacking areas.

Gudmundsson could be a handy addition after he’s scored 11 goals in 23 games for Genoa this season, suggesting he could cut it in the Premier League.

There will no doubt be several players on the list by time the summer window comes around, so it will be interesting to see whether we decide to make a move for him as a new forward is almost certain to come in.
