West Ham United want in-form striker Celtic are eager to keep hold of – Fabrizio Romano
West Ham United are keen on signing young Celtic forward Daniel Cummings, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Italian journalist reported via X [15 January] that the Irons will challenge Brighton for the 18-year-old’s signature, with his contract at Celtic Park expiring at the end of the season.
Graham Potter is eager to recruit a new forward in the winter transfer window after summer signing Niclas Fullkrug sustained a fresh injury blow in the 2-1 loss against Aston Villa last Friday (10 January), seeing him sidelined for over a month.
West Ham tried and failed with a £50 million offer for Aston Villa Jhon Duran this month [Claret & Hugh] and will now move to test Celtic’s resolve for Cummings.
“West Ham and Brighton are both keen on signing 18 year old Celtic striker Daniel Cummings, with Celtic pushing for him to stay and sign new deal,” Romano wrote.
“Twenty-four goals in 24 games this season for Cummings, out of contract in summer 2025.”
West Ham United push to sign Celtic starlet Daniel Cummings
Celtic will not go down without a fight, with Brendan Rodgers pushing hard for Cummings to sign fresh terms in Glasgow.
The Scotland Under-19s international is averaging a goal a game youth level this season, attracting the interest of Premier League clubs.
West Ham are exploring all options in the transfer market after missing out on Duran, with Emmanuel Latte-Lath, Igor Jesus, Yuri Alberto, Taiwo Awoniyi, Hwang Hee-chan, Stefanos Tzimas, Evan Ferguson and even Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford linked with a move to the London Stadium [The Telegraph].
Andre Silva has emerged as the latest target in East London. The 29-year-old, who Cristiano Ronaldo once dubbed as “phenomenal”, finds himself on the fringes at RB Leipzig.
However, among the plethora of options, Cummings stands out among the rest for his age, profile and his exploits tearing through the youth ranks of Scottish football.
While signing the youngster to become an immediate starter at the London Stadium would be a calculated risk, at this stage, it is one worth taking with the current striking options for Potter, injured or otherwise, all on the wrong side of 30.
Furthermore, it is a promising sign when Brighton enter the race for a young talent – Potter’s former employers have an impeccable track record for spotting emerging stars – so West Ham must get this deal over the line.
