West Ham United want Clement Lenglet on loan as update on £260,000-a-week wages emerges
West Ham United are interested in signing Clement Lenglet on loan from Barcelona but his wages may prove to be a stumbling block, according to Sport.
The Frenchman has rejected the proposal to terminate his contract at Camp Nou, instead favouring a loan spell away from the club.
After an offer from Saudi Arabia totalling “nearly” £12.6 million was rejected by the defender, he has turned his attention to interest from Europe.
West Ham have been joined by Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla in the race to sign him but the Spanish outlet has suggested (14 June) they couldn’t afford to “even pay half” his wage.
The Athletic reported on 6 January that Lenglet earns £13.5million-a-year, which equates to around £260,000-a-week.
West Ham interested in Clement Lenglet
The Hammers are in need of recruits in the centre-back role after the loss of Angelo Ogbonna at the end of his contract this summer.
This will only be made greater if Nayef Aguerd is to depart this summer with rumours suggesting he is nearing an exit from the London Stadium.
Although may not be good enough to be a guaranteed starter to begin with, Lenglet would certainly bring experience with him.
He has spent time in the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa, featuring heavily in European competition for both.
He also has great experience of La Liga after positive spells with Sevilla and Barcelona before his various loan spells.

If his parent club were willing to pay a larger share of his wages then this could be a positive piece of business for the Hammers squad.
This deal hinges on Barca’s willingness to do so, so West Ham fans will have to wait and see if this deal is possible.
