West Ham United update on Kieran Trippier transfer shared by Dharmesh Sheth
West Ham United are only keeping an eye on Newcastle United defender Kieran Trippier, with their focus on signing Aaron Wan-Bissaka, according to Dharmesh Sheth.
Reports had suggested that Julen Lopetegui’s side were considering a move for the England international as they look to provide Vladimir Coufal with some competition [The Telegraph, 7 August].
While Sky Sports reporter Sheth believes the Hammers have kept tabs on the 33-year-old’s situation, they remain optimistic they will be able to strike a deal with Manchester United for Wan-Bissaka instead.
Speaking on Sky Sports News on Thursday (8 August, 17:04) he said: “I’m told that West Ham United are just keeping an eye on Kieran Trippier’s situation while their full focus remains on trying to secure a deal with Manchester United for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
“Trippier is into the final year of his contract, although there’s a cautious air of optimism that West Ham can strike a deal with Manchester United for Wan-Bissaka, so Trippier won’t come into the equation.”
Will Aaron Wan-Bissaka exit Manchester United amid West Ham United transfer speculation?
While Trippier has had an impressive career both on the club and international stage, most West Ham supporters would much rather see Wan-Bissaka arrive at the London Stadium before the transfer deadline.
The United man is a lot younger than his Newcastle counterpart and would add a bit of defensive solidity to Lopetegui’s backline as he looks to revamp his defence ahead of his first season in charge in East London.
Hopefully, the Hammers’ optimism won’t have been misplaced and they will be able to strike a deal for Wan-Bissaka, but should it fall through, Tim Steidten and his team should be praised for already identifying a back-up plan.

Whatever happens, the Irons cannot afford to head into the new season with Coufal as their only first-team right-back after Ben Johnson called time on his spell at the London Stadium at the end of last season.
As long as one of Trippier or Wan-Bissaka are signed for a reasonable price, the majority of supporters will be happy.
